Favre distraction now helping Packers

by Chuck R

Us in the upper Midwest know all about mosquitoes. They swarm, and bite, and annoy, and spread disease. They are a nuisance can only be dealt with by swatting and spraying. Even then, they are always out there. In the woods, lurking. A menace that is never really seen, but you know is out there.

Brett Favre is out there, in the woods of Mississippi. When will he show up? Come out of hiding, retirement? Is he going to play again? Or will he stay dormant? These sort of questions buzzed around the thoughts of Packers fans last year. We couldn’t get a grip on the upcoming season because of the distraction, swarms of thoughts about Brett Favre. We couldn’t adapt to having Aaron Rodgers as our new quarterback. We kept hearing that buzzing coming from the woods. The players, I’m sure heard that buzzing as well. They may not have been able to focus on the upcoming season, eventually leading to a disappointing 6-10 record. The coaches heard that buzzing, and weren’t able to concentrate during training camp. The front office and everyone else heard that incessant chatter about BF. And now the Vikings get to hear it too.

So have fun during training camp, dear Vikings. Try and run your routes while the media swarms on you like a cloud of mosquitoes dive bombing a herd of cattle. Try and concentrate when everyone is talking about old number 4. The preseason is time to learn all the new schemes, get them fresh in your memory banks. But not this year. Let talk of Brett Favre stick between your ears, and perhaps a few months from now, you’ll have a few more losses to show for it. Whether or not he joins your team.
