Throughout Ted Thompson's reign as Packers GM his draft and hold style has been extremely consistent. We all know that he just doesn't play the free agent game and as such everyone was taken by surprise when he signed Julius Peppers this off-season. After 5 games it is already clear that Peppers has given the Packers defense something they have lacked for 6 years and that is a compliment to Mathews.
The question we have is why it took Ted 6 years to solve this problem, you would think that 2, 3, or 5 years would have been sufficient to look for a new strategy to a glaring problem. It is our opinion that Ted would have been fired by now if not for the Super Bowl year and his inflexibility of managing the roster has cost this team additional Super Bowl chances. Hopefully the Peppers signing will be a reminder to Ted to be flexible may once every year or two when it comes to a key free agent.
